Extending abortion rights

The rights of women in Britain to have the choice of and access to abortion is under threat in Britain as never before.

Coalition For Choice wants to not only protect abortion rights but extend them further.

We:
- Are in favour of easing restrictions in the 40-year-old abortion law in England and Wales.

- Are in favour of removing the rule that two doctors are needed to give approval for a woman to have an abortion.

- Support the view that nurses and midwives should be able to carry out abortions at up to three months.

- Want to axe restrictions on where abortions can be conducted.

The current barriers mean many abortions are carried out later than necessary. At some NHS Trusts women can have to wait up to seven weeks once they have made the decision to have an abortion.

We advocate bringing the law in line with medical advances.
